Anatomy is the thing most artists know they should learn — and quietly put off.
Maybe you can feel when a figure looks off, but you can't quite say why. The shoulders don't sit right, the limbs feel boneless, the body looks like a guess. So you lean on reference, copy what you see, and hope it holds together — without really understanding what's underneath.
I get it — anatomy can look like an intimidating mountain of names and muscles. But it doesn't have to be memorization. Over these 10 weeks, we'll learn it the way that actually helps your drawing: as a set of simple, dependable forms you can build with.
Through demos, in-class exercises, and homework, we'll work through:
By the end, you won't be copying anatomy — you'll understand it. You'll be able to construct a convincing figure from your own head, and finally know why a drawing works instead of hoping it does.
The recommended workload is 3-6 hours per week for homework, with a strong emphasis on consistent daily practice (30min-1hour per day) rather than cramming everything before class. That being said, every student is responsible for their own effort - the more you put in, the more you get out.
